Swimming is for everyone – all ages – young and old!

There are many reasons we should all learn how to swim properly. If you learn the proper way to swim now, you will have a recreational and aerobic activity that you can continue to enjoy throughout the rest of your life! Here are a few benefits of taking swim lessons at the NAC and learning how to swim.

1. Water Safety

Each year, a great number of deaths happen while drowning. According to USA Swimming, participation in formal swimming lessons can reduce the risk of drowning by 88 percent among children ages 1-4. Learning to swim teaches kid safety while in the pool and could potentially give them the skills to help save lives.

2. Fitness

Swimming uses every one of the body’s major muscle groups and is a fantastic aerobic activity to get your heart pumping. A swimming workout is a total body workout, strengthening everything from the core to the legs to the arms. As you push, pull and kick your way through the water, you are simultaneously working muscles from your triceps and biceps to abdominals and everything in between.

3. Health

Participating in a sport reduces the risk of childhood obesity, which is also linked to juvenile diabetes. Swimming is great because of the cardiovascular benefits that promote heart and lung health. Plus, it is an activity that can be done during anytime of the year, on a team or solo.

4. Confidence & Motivation

Some kids are like a fish, while others have a very natural fear of the water. Learning to swim is a great boost for a child’s confidence. Swimming allows kids to face a challenge and conquer that challenge by learning its value. Like riding a bike or flying a kite, swimming allows kids to get better over time with practice and helps to boost a child’s confidence that they can meet a goal on their own.

5. Coordination

Coordination is an important part of our lives. When you swim you need to synchronize what your arms and legs are doing, along with coordinating your breathing and other body movements. Swimming helps with coordination and strength in other, out-of-water situations as a result.

Our outdoor oasis opens this spring – don’t miss the chance to get your child ready for the swim season. To help prepare, NAC Swim School offers group, semi-private & private swim lessons.
