Resolutions Are Out, Goal Setting Is In.

Blog written by NAC Fitness Director, Paul Kwiatkowski, CSCS, MA.

At the NAC, we preach the value of a healthy lifestyle, yet oftentimes, we still miss the mark. According to studies, “only 9% of Americans successfully keep their resolutions, and even worse 23% quit in their first week.” –Inside Out Mastery

So how do we remove the failing resolution mindset, and set goals that we can actually reach? Let’s set guidelines that will guide our path to success. Since 52% of Americans want to lose weight as their resolution, let’s start there.

What do you want to achieve? Be specific.

Is your goal to see certain number on the scale? Look a certain way for an event? In an outfit?

Without a specific goal, our target becomes the wall behind the dart board – easy to hit, but it won’t be the goal we are looking for.

Can you measure the difference?

The scale doesn’t lie, but it also might not have the whole truth. Using the InBody scale with one of our Certified Personal Trainers will tell you if you gained muscle or fat – keep in mind, both weigh the same.

What actions are you going to take to make it happen?

At the start of the year, we ALL have a full plate. To get to your goal, you will need to make room and prioritize those items on your plate. If you aren’t willing to add to your plate or change what’s on your plate then will never be successful.

How is this relevant to your life?

Why does this matter to you? Your WHY will determine your motivation, even at your weakest moments – and especially when your willing to give up.

When do you want to accomplish this goal by?

Goals are a sprint, they take a narrow-minded focus to accomplish within the longer journey of life.

Pro Tip: Use the Specific, Measurable, Actionable, Relevant, and Time acronym to set your SMART Goals for the year.
