Meet Our Parkour Instructor!

Meet our popular Parkour Instructor, Joneil! He attends Bucks County Community College where he is majoring in both Cinematography & Business. He enjoys traveling, producing videos, and staying active, where he one day hopes to become a director and film Parkour!

What exactly is Parkour?

There are so many ways to describe it! The simplest version of what Parkour means is the art of motion. It takes aspects from martial arts and allows the person to express themselves in a very creative and unique way.

How long have you been doing Parkour?

I have been practicing Parkour for the last 5 years!

How long have you worked at the NAC?

I have worked at the NAC for the last 3 years and I absolutely love it.

What is the most rewarding part of being a Parkour Instructor?

The most rewarding part is being able to do what I love everyday. I was able to connect with the kids over the last 3 years, get to know their families and watch them succeed the more they learn the skills.

What do you love most about Parkour?

There are too many things to name! I love that you are able to make it your own. You can express yourself in anyway you want. There are no rules, it is all about free movement, being carefree and being able to do something I am so passionate about.

We love having Joneil at the NAC!

How You Can Encourage Fitness as a Family Value

Now that it’s back to school time, it can be hard to make your family’s fitness a top priority, as other responsibilities begin to pile up. Encouraging fitness as a familial value is great for your individual health, but also a perfect way to bond together as a family. Looking to get your spouse and children to join in the fun with you? Take our tips for family-friendly fitness, from a premier wellness center in Newtown, PA, and enjoy a more active fall!

● Choose the right fitness center. If you’re looking to get your family members active, encourage them to join in by joining family-friendly fitness center in Bucks County, PA. While many fitness centers cater to a specific audience – ranging from professional bodybuilders to marathon runners to casual exercise enthusiasts looking to get back in shape – a family focused community is the way to go for your whole family. Before committing to joining a gym or local fitness center, give them a call and ask about their family membership options and kids programs.

● Get kids moving with a fun class. For children, exercise must come through having fun! Most kids are more receptive to fitness when it’s framed within the context of a fun contest or game, which makes youth fitness programs perfect for young movers. Newtown Athletic Club offers several kids fitness classes like taekwondo, gymnastics and dance at a variety of skill levels. The fall session of youth classes has just begun. Learn more about our commitment to youth fitness here!

● Talk about the importance of health with your children. While most adults value the health benefits of exercise, children might not be able to conceptualize the importance of exercise in preventing long-term health issues. Saying things like “When you run, your heart gets nice and strong!” and “Wow! Your muscles help you make amazing karate moves!” is a simple way to help children understand that exercise is important for their bodies, and to value fitness more as they age.

What do your children do to stay active? Your children are invited to try a free, youth fitness class: For more information, call 215-968-0600.

3. What is something most people don’t know about you?

Most people don’t know that I used to be a mascot for the WMBA for 3 years.

4. What is your favorite thing to do in your spare time?

5. If you could travel anywhere in the world, where would you go?

I have been lucky to have done a lot of traveling in my life. I have been to about 30 states in the U.S. and several different countries. For my next trip, I would love to visit Australia.

The Benefits of Learning How to Swim

Swimming is for everyone, both young and old. There are many reasons we should all learn how to swim. If you learn to swim now, you will have a recreational, aerobic activity that you can continue to enjoy throughout the rest of your life! Here are a few benefits of taking swim lessons and learning how to swim.

1. Water Safety

Each year, a great number of deaths happen while drowning. According to USA Swimming, participation in formal swimming lessons can reduce the risk of drowning by 88 percent among children ages 1-4. Learning to swim teaches kid safety while in the pool and could potentially give them the skills to help save lives.

 2. Fitness

Swimming uses every one of the body’s major muscle groups and is a fantastic aerobic activity to get your heart pumping. A swimming workout is a total body workout, strengthening everything from the core to the legs to the arms. As you push, pull and kick your way through the water, you are simultaneously working muscles from your triceps and biceps to abdominals and everything in between.

3. Health

Participating in a sport reduces the risk of childhood obesity, which is also linked to juvenile diabetes. Swimming is great because of the cardiovascular benefits that promote heart and lung health. Plus, it is an activity that can be done during anytime of the year, on a team or solo.

4. Confidence & Motivation

Some kids are like a fish, while others have a very natural fear of the water. Learning to swim is a great boost for a child’s confidence. Swimming allows kids to face a challenge and conquer that challenge by learning its value. Like riding a bike or flying a kite, swimming allows kids to get better over time with practice and helps to boost a child’s confidence that they can meet a goal on their own.

5. Coordination

Coordination is an important part of our lives. When you swim you need to synchronize what your arms and legs are doing, along with coordinating your breathing and other body movements. Swimming helps with coordination and strength in other, out-of-water situations as a result.

With summer just around the corner, kids everywhere cannot wait to jump into a pool, splash, play and have fun! For inquires about swim lessons, please contact Katie Field at

On Sunday, May 8 from 10-11 am and Monday, May 9 from 4-6 pm we are hosting an open house for all swimmers who have questions about Summer I session and are interested in free lesson testing. More information about aquatics Summer I and swim lessons can be found here:
