GIVING BACK

CHARITY & ADVOCACY BEGIN AT HOME

The Newtown Athletic Club has been working with countless organizations in the community since 1978. As a cornerstone of the community, we support hundreds of other groups and organizations. After giving significant contributions to the community (valuing over $1 million dollars annually) for over 20 years, to gather all of these altruistic activities under one organization, the Have a Heart Foundation was born.   Please visit our NAC Have a Heart Foundation website to learn more.  https://www.NACHaveaHeart.org

NAC Have A Heart Foundation

The NAC Have a Heart Foundation was founded by the owner of the Newtown Athletic Club (NAC), with a vision to create a charitable arm of the NAC that would serve the community both locally and nationally.

The mission of the foundation is to identify and raise awareness and funds for causes in our community which affect the quality of life of the members of our community and the world at large through both advocacy and fundraising.

While the foundation supports many causes, it currently focuses on raising funds for ALS research (funds going directly to ALS TDI) to find a cure for this horrific disease and supports advocacy for causes that affect the terminally ill. To date, more than $2 million has been raised for Augie’s Quest through Matt’s Mission.

52K in 52 Weeks

Since January of 2022 the NAC has instituted the 52K in 52 Weeks initiative which awards $1,000 (or more) each week to a different local charity, non-profit organization or cause.  The goal of this program is to “Spread the Wealth and Spread the Word” so that these local grassroots charities receive well deserved recognition and awareness in the community.  We have been told that the promotion they receive is “worth its weight in gold”.  For the past 2 years we have given away well over $100,000, which averages out to more than $1,000 a week to a local charity, non-profit or cause. Not only have we helped over 100 local charities with a monetary donation in the last 2 years, but we have also given away $300,000 in goods and services – gift certificates for membership and other services to over 200 local causes.   We also help charities and non-profits raise even more funds for their own causes with the free use of our resources, such as space and volunteers.  Some of these causes include Fuel the Force in support of local police, Mended Little Hearts supporting families with babies and congenital heart defects, Autism Cares Foundation, Breast Cancer Programs, Foster Children, Travis Manion Foundation for veterans and so many more. Victor 6 Veterans Fitness Program

In partnership with the Newtown Athletic Club, David A. Christian, Captain U.S. Army, medically retired for wounds in combat and an internationally recognized “Veterans Advocate,” has taken to task to combat the war on the at-risk physical and mental health of Veterans, reducing the risk of suicide. It has been established that there is a direct correlation between physical and mental health; he has created a working environment correlating and combining physical activities for veterans with/without disabilities. The program is free to active military and Veterans.

The Newtown Athletic Club and the NAC Have a Heart Foundation are proud  to be involved in the Victor Six Veterans Fitness program, which provides veterans the chance to participate in a physical and mental well-being program that, in many cases, saves their lives.  This [program includes 3 months of customized fitness, wellness and psychological adherence training to improve the physical and mental well being of the participants.  The camaraderie developed among the veterans is an integral aspect of the successful outcomes.

We are trying to spread the word to veterans and the general community that this program exists and is free for all veterans.
