#TeamTuesday – Katlin Doolan

This week’s #TeamTuesday featured team member is Camp NAC Manager, Katlin Doolan. Katlin, from Lawrenceville, NJ, has been working at the NAC for just two months. During the school year, Katlin is a Physical Education teacher at a private school in Princeton, NJ and is an avid volunteer coach for Special Olympics New Jersey. Katlin is very excited to join our team at the NAC and can’t wait for camp to start this summer!

1. What is your favorite part of your job?

So far as a Camp Manager I have enjoyed getting to know the staff and the prospective staff. I am really looking forward to camp starting and getting to work with the campers!

2. If you could only eat one thing for the rest of your life, what would you choose?

I love pizza! Hands down my favorite food!

3. What book has had a great impact on your life?

I had to read One Child by Torey Hayden in college and loved it! It opened my eyes to how a teacher or one person could change a child’s life.

4. What is the best concert you’ve ever been to?

The best concert I have ever been to was the Backstreet Boys. I’ve seen them three times!

5. What is the best gift you’ve ever received?

The coolest present I’ve ever received was New York Mets tickets to one of the last games at Shea Stadium.

6. What is your proudest accomplishment?

My proudest accomplishment was being hired as a full time Physical Education teacher right after graduating from Lock Haven University.

7. What is your favorite movie of all time?

My favorite movie is Disney’s Beauty and the Beast!

#TeamTuesday – Kerri Dougherty

This week’s #TeamTuesday feature team member is Kerri Dougherty! Kerri is a new gymnastics and KidFit instructor at the NAC. Kerri teaches fun fitness, sports of all sorts, soccer, and hockey. She looks forward to continuing working for the NAC, and being the best instructor she can be.

Get to know Kerri!

  1. What is your favorite part of your job?

My favorite part about my job is playing sports with the kids. The kids seem to really enjoy scrimmaging when their instructor jumps in. My hockey class is all boys, I like to remind them that girls are just as great at sports as boys, by showing off my awesome hockey skills.

  1.  If you were a fruit, what would you be and why?

If I were a fruit, I would be a strawberry. I like to think I am sweet and simple, plus they’re at their best in the spring, and that’s my favorite season.

  1. What do you miss most about being a kid?

I miss the magical feeling of Disney World.  As a kid the Disney princesses and princes are the real deal, and Cinderella’s castle is obviously where Cinderella lives year round.  Today I know that is not the case, but I’ll still take any opportunity to visit Disney World, and take a picture with Mickey and Minnie.

  1. What is one of the coolest things you’ve ever gotten to do?

This summer my immediate and extended family all took a trip to Turks & Caicos.  It was my first time being out of the country, and I swam with a sea-turtle while snorkeling!

  1. What is your favorite movie and why?

I have two favorite movies. My first is The Dark Knight.  This movie keeps you on the edge of your seat and the acting is phenomenal.  My second favorite movie is Inside Out. Inside Out is adorable, light-hearted, and a pick me up kind of movie. Ironically, these two movies couldn’t be further from opposites.

  1. What is your proudest accomplishment?

I’m very proud that I made the Dean’s List my first semester of college. I invested a lot of time into my studies, and never missed a class.

  1. What did you want to be when you grew up?

When I was little I wanted to be a teacher.  My younger sister Katherine would play “school” with me for hours. Of course I was the teacher and she was my student – but hey, that’s what little sisters are for.

#TeamTuesday – Chris Lanctot

This week’s #TeamTuesday feature team member is Chris Lanctot! Chris, Director of Rock Starz All Stars, has a 21 year history of coaching competitive cheer. 15 of her 21 coaching years have been spent directing cheer programs such as REC and All Star. After winning multiple national titles in REC cheerleading, Chris started Rock Starz with just one All-Star team. Seven years later, the program has grown to house athletes ages 3-18, on 9 teams ranging from Levels 1-5 and a special needs team, the Shining Starz.

  1. What is your favorite part of your job?

My favorite part of my job is watching the confidence grow in an athlete, whether it’s attaining a new skill, mastering something they have been struggling with, or hitting a great routine on the floor. I also love watching the teams become a bonded cohesive unit where together they can reach goals & accomplish anything!

  1.  What is something most people don’t know about you? 

I don’t like any fruit pies or cooked fruit. I’m a chocolate lover!

  1. What is the best gift you’ve ever received?

During Spring Break, my daughter and her Labrador drove all night from Florida to surprise us and later that week her new husband flew in to visit too. Having a house of 7, with all the kids home is the best gift. It doesn’t happen often enough!

  1. What are four things you can’t live without?

Diet coke big gulp from 7-11, workouts, coffee and hairspray.

  1. If you could travel anywhere in the world, where would you go?

The Four Seasons Resort in Bora Bora, an island in French Polynesia.

  1. What is your proudest accomplishment?

Hands down, my kids! All four are incredible. They have big hearts and all work hard on whatever they are doing. Brittany, Gregory and Brooke are in their twenties and Murphy is 10, yet they all support each other and are close.

  1. If you could be any animal for a day, what would you be?
I wouldn’t mind  being a dog for a day. Napping, playing and relaxing for a day sounds perfect! In our house, our dogs have always gotten a ton of love and attention. Not to mention they rule the couch!

#TeamTuesday – Alexis Mongiello

This week’s #TeamTuesday feature team member is Alexis Mongiello! Alexis started taking gymnastics at just one year old when she took baby gym with her mom at the NAC. She continued up until she was on a level 4 team. Her love for tumbling never ended though. Alexis was a cheerleader until her freshman year of high school. Coaching gymnastics at the NAC is one of Alexis’s favorite things to do because she enjoys sharing her love for gymnastics with all of the NAC gymnasts.

  1. What is your favorite part of your job?

My favorite part of my job is teaching the kids how to tumble.

  1.  What fruit best describes your personality? 

I would say I am a kiwi because they’re unique.

  1. What 3 things would you want if you were stranded on a deserted island?

If I were stuck on a deserted island, I would want an unlimited amount of pizza, my phone, and my family.

  1. What is something most people don’t know about you?

Something that most people at the NAC don’t know about me is that I am one of the captains for sports nite at my school.

  1. What is your favorite ice cream flavor?

If I had to choose just one, I would say chocolate peanut butter is my favorite ice cream flavor.

  1. What is your proudest accomplishment?

My greatest accomplishment was working hard to get my double full. It was such an exciting accomplishment for me.

  1. What is your favorite thing to do in your spare time?

My favorite thing to do in my spare time is to hang out with my family and create memories that I always will remember.

#TeamTuesday – Liza Eden

This week’s #TeamTuesday feature team member is Liza Eden! Liza began working at Program Desk in October of 2015.  Her affiliation with the NAC began as a member so she has a unique, dual perspective – as a member and now as a staff member. Liza’s kids keep her busy, particularly with their endless array of activities. When not impersonating a taxi driver, Liza dabbles in interior design.

  1. What is your favorite part of your job?

Working at the Program Desk is incredibly social and works well with my personality. I love interacting with our NAC members and visitors to help them in their pursuit of a healthy lifestyle for themselves and their families. Each NAC day I’m presented with new situations which in turn, keeps things varied and interesting.

  1.  What fruit best describes your personality? 

Passion fruit would most accurately correlate with my personality.  I’m passionate and energetic in life, particularly about fitness and our NAC community.  Laughter, in particular, just makes life better.

  1. What 3 things would you want if you were stranded on a deserted island?

Hmmm, 3 things on a deserted island…only 3?!  A hammock, a library filled with books and sunscreen!

  1. What is something most people don’t know about you?

Most people probably aren’t aware that I recently moved into the area from overseas. Our family lived in Poland for two years and were transferred to Malaysia for three years thereafter. What a great experience it was for my kids! They have an interesting lens from which they view the world, thanks to their dad’s employment.

  1. What is your favorite ice cream flavor?

Ice cream isn’t a particular favorite of mine…but peanut butter cups…now we’re onto something!  If forced to eat ice cream, it would have to be peanut butter chocolate, doused with fudge sauce!

  1. What is your proudest accomplishment?

Raising my kids is undoubtedly my finest achievement and most challenging endeavor!  I’ve raised six kids: four boys (21, 20, 18, 13) and twin girls (11).  The oldest two are in college, with #3 on the verge of graduation this year. Three more to go!

  1. What is your favorite thing to do in your spare time?

Spare time? Please define this?! Ha ha! When not working/exercising at the NAC, I can be found with my nose in a book, traveling/camping (think s’mores) with my kids, or listening to music/dancing.

This week’s #TeamTuesday team member of the week is Catrina Coyle! Catrina was nominated by NAC member Courtney Kinney.   1. What is your favorite part of your job?

My favorite part of this job is probably the relationships you form with the kids since you see them so often! Also the smiles and energy they have can easily make your day!

  1.  What is your go-to song on Karaoke night?

If there was one song I would sing to karaoke it would be “Love Yourself” by Justin Bieber because he’s my favorite singer!

  1. What color best represents your personality?

The color that represents me the best would be orange. Orange because I am so energetic and very outgoing.

  1. What’s the best gift you’ve ever received?

The best gift I have ever received was my dog. My dog means so much to my family and I and have brought so much happiness in our lives!

  1. When you were a child, what did you want to be when you grew up?

When I was younger I wanted to be a teacher. A lot of teachers I had growing up impacted me so much and made me who I am today.

  1. What is your proudest accomplishment?

My proudest accomplishment is probably buying my own car because I spent so much time working and saving just so I can buy a car.

  1. If you could travel anywhere in the world, where would you go?

If I could travel anywhere in the world it would be to Spain. Ever since I was little I always wanted to visit there. Mostly just from the pictures Ive seen or movies and how beautiful it is!

#TeamTuesday – KellyAnn Baskins

This week’s #TeamTuesday team member of the week is KellyAnn from the Kids Club. KellyAnn has over ten years of experience working with children. She began working as a camp counselor as a teenager and has since worked in day cares, and now, the Kids Club.

Get to know KellyAnn!

  1. What is your favorite part of your job?

My favorite part of the job would be seeing the smiles on the children’s faces. If you’re having a bad day, their smiles would turn that around.

  1.  What was your favorite subject in school and why?

My favorite subject in school was American History. The reason I like American History is because I get to learn about the events that shaped our country to the way it is today.

  1. Who is your hero?

My hero would be my dad. The reason would be he told me daily to reach for the stars and never give up. He still reminds me of that to this day.

  1. Where would you go on your dream vacation?

My dream vacation would be to Australia because it beautiful and I would like to hold a koala bear.

  1. If you had to pick a jellybean flavor to describe your personality what would it be?

My jellybean favor that would describe me would be bubblegum. I’m bubblegum because I’m always bubbly in my personality.

  1. What is your proudest accomplishment?

My proudest accomplishment would be graduating with a certification in EKG.

  1. If you were a superhero, what would you choose as your superpower?

If I could have any superpower it would be to be able to read people’s minds especially children’s and animals.

#TeamTuesday – Nicole Beck

Meet Nicole, the newest member of the Youth Programs team, in this week’s #TeamTuesday feature! Nicole is the new Youth Programs Marketing Coordinator and she will be working in the Aquatics, Rockstarz and NAC Parties departments. Nicole is a recent graduate from Temple University, and has her degree in Strategic Communications. In her spare time, Nicole loves traveling, being outdoors, and photography.

1. What are you looking forward to most in your new position?

In my new position, I am looking forward to working closely with children and making a difference in their overall health and well-being. By marketing youth programs, I am given the opportunity to get more children involved in living a happy and healthy lifestyle.

2.  What are three things you can’t live without?

Three things I can’t live without is my Nikon DSLR camera, my planner and my fuzzy socks.

3. What do you miss most about being a kid?

What I miss most about being a kid is getting to see all my friends almost every day. Now as an adult, it’s not so easy to spontaneously get together.

4. What is something most people don’t know about you?

Something most people don’t know about me is that I love a good adrenaline rush! I’ve gone skydiving twice and am hoping to go again in the near future!

5. What motivates you to succeed?

My four siblings at home motivate me to succeed. As the oldest child, I will always thrive to be the best possible role model for them that I can be.

6. What is your proudest accomplishment?

My proudest accomplishment is graduating from Temple University last summer.

7. What fruit best describes your personality?

A fruit that best describes my personality is a pitaya (dragon fruit). A Pitaya is sweet, colorful and unique.

#TeamTuesday – Rebecca Mora

In this week’s #TeamTuesday feature, meet Rebecca, the newest member of the Youth Programs team! Rebecca just joined the team as our FITfinity coordinator and will be working to grow this amazing new program. Rebecca is looking forward to creating an amazing program for children of all ages with special needs. Read on to learn more about Rebecca and what she hopes to accomplish for our members and the community in her new role here at the NAC.

Get to know Rebecca!

1. What are you looking forward to most in your new position?

I took this position because it truly aligns with who I am as a person. I knew it would enable me to create equitable learning and fitness opportunities for kids of all ability levels, which is a goal very near and dear to my heart. Our FITfinity program aims to do just that, and I am particularly looking forward to broadening the scope of its program offerings.

2.  What color best describes your personality?

Well, I bleed Eagles green, but to describe my personality I would have to say red. I am energetic and animated, and when I am passionate about something I give it 110% at full speed.

3. When is the last time you did something for the first time?

Right now, I am running the French Exchange program at Hopewell Valley Central High School and absolutely loving it! I have run the Spanish Exchange program for years, but this will be my first time taking 15 students to Lyon, France for 17 days in the spring. I find that travel abroad, especially at an age in which kids are developing their own identity, is so important in promoting cultural tolerance and self-reflection.

4. When you were a kid, what did you want to be when you grew up?

When I was a kid, I always wanted to be a full time princess. For obvious reasons, my long-term career goal remains the same.

5. What is the best concert you have ever been to?

The best performer I have seen live is Jay-Z. Hands down.

6. What is your proudest accomplishment?

My proudest accomplishment has been coaching cheerleading in an environment that is inclusive of learners with special needs. When building a program, I like to create a family-like community that values each participant’s unique strengths. On my squad we focus on sportsmanship, teamwork, integrity, leadership, communication, discipline, and respect. We even have a mentoring program in which our High School cheerleaders take on leadership roles to mentor the Elementary level participants.

7. What are three things you can’t live without?

I absolutely cannot live without chocolate, my family,  and the Philadelphia Eagles.  In that order.

#TeamTuesday – Melissa Siger

This week’s #TeamTuesday feature post is on one of our amazing Kids Club team members–Melissa! After years of working as a nanny while finishing school, Melissa fell into her current role as the night and weekend manager in the Kids Club. Melissa earned her degree in paralegal studies. She also loves yoga, pilates, reading, and good quality food. Read on to find out what Melissa’s favorite part of working in the Kids Club is!

1. What is your favorite part of your job?

Hands down, the best part of my job is hearing the crazy and funny things children say and do each day. I always have stories to tell my fiancé.

2.  If you could have any profession for a day, what would you do?

I would like to be royalty for a day, so I guess I’d take Queen Elizabeth’s job.

3. Who is your hero?

I don’t believe in heroes, but I really admire anyone who handles adversity with grace and doesn’t let life’s obstacles harden them.

4. If you had to eat one meal for the rest of your life, what would it be?

Pizza, but I’m gluten intolerant so I don’t think that’d go over so well.

5. What is your favorite hobby outside of work?

I have a four month old baby, so naturally I have no hobbies at the moment. Check in with me in about two years!

6. What is your proudest accomplishment?

Definitely raising my daughter. She is a very kind, compassionate, and hilarious little girl. She is also very brave socially which impresses me, because I’m not.

7. If you won $100 million what would you do with it?

I would take off of work for a year and travel all over the world with my family. I’d also buy my mom and dad their own homes somewhere tropical, because they have both have sacrificed so much in their lives and both hate the cold.
