On February 21, 2015 NAC members and guests braved the cold to visit Old York Cellars, a winery and vineyard located in Ringoes, NJ. In the beautiful Vista Room featuring a brick fireplace, tiled bar, and sweeping views of the vineyard, they participated in an hour long yoga class led by Toni Porello, also known to her yoga followers as Tosia.
Tosia addressed the individual needs of the students in the class, and modified poses for the different ability levels, just like a mixed level NAC class.
After yoga, everyone bundled up to walk over to the Tank Room, where they were surrounded by large vats of wine, and educated on the process of growing, aging, and bottling the different wines.
Then it was back to the Vista Room, to experienced a wine tasting with seven varieties of wine: the 2013 Vidal Blanc, 2012 Oaked Chardonnay, 2013 Malbec, 2012 Sweet Riesling, Blackberry and Peach dessert wines, and the 2011 Southpaw Red Port. With each taste of wine, participants were invited to pair chocolates with varying percentages of cacao. The Vista Room was exhibiting artwork from the Milbourn-Short Hills Arts Center, so the paintings, the views of snow covered grape vines, and fireplace provided an interesting backdrop for sampling wine and chocolates.
To conclude the afternoon NAC members were invited to enjoy a complimentary glass of their favorite wine in the winery’s tasting room. Old York Cellars gave each participant a voucher to return for a free wine tasting for two, and
a souvenir wine glass to remember the experience. Members enjoyed themselves, got to know other members, and had an educational and delicious tasting.
